Last night in the bathtub, Camden is watching me take off my make-up and he says, "Mommy, when you put make-up on, it makes you look pretty and all the boys will want to be your boyfriend."
I laughed and told him that I only had one boyfriend now, and that was his Daddy; and that Mommy didn't have boyfriends now because I had married his Daddy. He then says, "Well, how did you get married?"
I start to explain how part of growing up is finding your soulmate. I told him that when God made him, he also made his soulmate, so that one day when he grows up, he'll look for his soulmate and find her and they'll fall in love and get married. Then he says, "What's a soulmate?"
So, I explain how you find the one person in the whole world who you love more than anything and you want to spend forever with. Then, I tell him "Your Daddy found me first, Cam."
He says, "Well, what if you found Daddy, but Daddy found someone else?" :o)
I laughed and told him that I would just have to hope that the other person wouldn't want Daddy, so he'd come and pick me. That seemed to satisfy him.
So, I've got the intellectual questions coming from Cam, while Zach is sitting beside him drinking soapy bathwater and giggling everytime Cam pokes him. Ah, the joys of motherhood!

Camden's P.E.Class
On Halloween, I was able to take the day off to spend with Camden at school. They were having a Halloween Book Character Parade; more on that later...but I was able to go to P.E. with his class before the parade.
First, we have Camden swinging over the hungry alligators in the alligator pit. That's his teacher, Mrs. Witt, in the pic with him.
Then the rock wall...
Carter's Mountain ~~ Brownsville Kindergarten Field Trip

Camden's Kindergarten went to Carter's Mountain Apple Orchard back in September to pick apples! The trip went along with their unit on the life cycle of apples. They each made an apple print t-shirt that everyone wore to the orchard that day.
TD took the day off and was able to go with him. They had a great time. Camden told me that evening that his friend Andrew told him: "Camden, your Daddy rocks!"
Albemarle County Fair 2007
Ok, so I'm REALLY behind on this blog and I'm going to try to get caught up...so, I'll start by going back to the late summer at the County Fair. We live just up the road from the fair, and always take the boys (of course!). For about two weeks prior to the opening of the fair, we would ride by twice a day (on the way to town and the way home) and Cam would see the workers raising the tents and all the animals arriving...everyday..."When does the fair open? Can we go? When are we going to go to the fair?"
Anyway, we took the boys for a second visit on the last day and had a great time! Kathy, (who is TD's mom, for those of you who don't know her), and I took Zach and we met my Mom and Camden there. TD showed up when he got off work.
Both boys rode the ponies, which Cam LOVED and Zach HATED; rode lots of rides and played a lot of carnival games.
Camden and my mom entered some of their veggies from gardening and a few flowers as well and won lots of ribbons.
Zachary thought MawMaw was a little hungry, so he decided to feed her some of his french fries!

I think Cam was the most proud and excited about the First Place ribbon he won for the drawing he did of his Daddy's Jeep. He drew it while we were on vacation at the beach, and it was so good, I decided to enter it in the fair...and he won! He did a great job!

Where Did You Hit Your Head?

So, a few nights ago, we were eating dinner at the Laymans and Zachary dropped his sippy cup. I get up to go pick it up, handed it to him, turned around and in a split second (we all know how fast this can happen), he fell out of his chair.
Poor thing, he's crying/screaming, so I pick him up and I'm loving on him and hugging him and I say "Where did you hit your head, Zachy?", because he was holding both his forehead and the side of his head.
Zach looks at me, stops crying, with this serious look on his face and says "The Floor"; the look on his face was hysterical, you could just imagine in his head he's going "You idiot, you just picked me up off the floor, and you're gonna ask me where I hit my head."
I hug him again, and Cam looks at me like "Duh, Mom."
Bookfair Blizzard

Camden's bookfair at Brownsville was last week. Family night was Thursday night, so we met Granny and Grandaddy there too. Zachary played outside with Grandaddy while TD, Camden, Granny and I looked at books inside. At the entrance to the fair, there was a jar full of small chocolate snowcaps for the students to guess how many were inside the jar.
Cam's first guess was 150, so TD said, "Take one more good look and see if you're sure that's your guess." Next guess was 1,000. TD helped him fill out his guess slip and we went on in to the fair.
Sunday afternoon, our next-door neighbor, who helps out with the bookfair every year walked over with the candy jar because Camden won! The total number of candies was 864, so Camden was the closest number. The next closest number was 653, so Cam was obviously closer.
Back at the kindergarten open house, his teacher had a small jar full of chocolate kisses for them to guess the number of. Yep, Cam was that too!
Time for him to start picking lotto numbers!

I Know What Rhymes With......

A few nights ago Camden and Zachary are in the bathtub playing around.
Out of the blue Camden says:
"Momma! I know some new rhyming words...... Heart and Fart! Gas and Ass!"
Before I could speak...my mouth was hanging open, I'm sure...he comes up with the best (or worst)
"Oh and Venus and Penis!"
Needless to say, we had to remind him that penis is a private potty word and not to be repeated in kindergarten. Not to mention ass and gas! Not sure where that came from, but we had a LONG talk about that word.
Ah...they joys of motherhood.

Zachary's Pumpkin Patch Trip

Zachary's preschool class went to the pumpkin patch this past Wednesday. He had a ball! Loved playing will all his friends and most of all the hayride!
The patch was on a small farm north of Charlottesville, so they did have a few animals for the kids to see...pigs, turkeys, chickens, goats and a donkey. Which Zachary did not like the donkey, he kept saying "Hurt me? Hurt me?" Bless his heart.
He loved the hayride. Got on and said "Robbie tractor?" TD's Uncle Robbie has a tractor just like the one pulling the hay wagon, so he loved that! Kept saying "Whee! Whee! Whee! Go, go, go!" Then got really tired and put his head on his daddy's shoulder and fell asleep!
All in all, we had a great day!

Hometown Heroes Lunch

Camden's school held their annual Hometown Heroes Luncheon a few weeks ago and invited all local law enforcement, fire and rescue to come have lunch with the students.
Of course, TD went and was able to go back to Camden's class and talk to them about safety and the usual.
Camden was VERY proud to have his Daddy eating lunch with him, and they both bought school lunch...Daddy had pepperoni pizza and Camden had cheese pizza.
During the talk, TD said Camden was absolutely hilarious.
TD would ask a question like "Who here knows what a policeman does?" Camden would immediately raise his hand, "Oh, I know Daddy, I know!" TD would say "I know you know Camden, but let's see if anyone else does."
So, one child answers "Um, you shoot people when they are bad and kill people." TD's response..."Well, yeah, but anything else?" Camden yells out "You write speeding tickets and you wrote 10 in one day, and 3 yesterday, and you pick up bad guys from Florida, North Carolina, New York and bring them back here to jail."
Basically, Camden could have just given the talk that day, he was so excited for his Daddy to be there.
So, at the end of the talk, TD asked the kids if anyone had any questions about anything he had talked about and surprisingly no one did. Which was a relief for TD, because anytime he is around kids, they ALWAYS want to talk about the gun. So, when no one asked anything, Camden blurts out "Oh yeah, he's got a GUN!"
Leave it to the cop's kid to point it out!
Afterwards, TD took the class outside to his car and let them all get in and sit in the back-seat which they all LOVED.

Cam loves Basketball!

Like Father, Like Son...
Camden has begun to show quite an interest in sports in the recent year or so. So after two successful (?) seasons of T-Ball, we enrolled him in Beginning Basketball, which was being offered as an after-school activity at Brownsville. His kindergarten teacher, Mrs. McCartney, is his "coach" and is seen in the pictures with him. This was his second lesson...and he loves it!
Who knows? Maybe he can teach his dad a few things!

Happy Birthday Zachary!

Happy Birthday Zach! Zachary turns two this Thursday the 20th, but we had his birthday party this past Saturday. A Diego theme, of course. TD did an incredible job on the cake. He drew Diego's face on the cake.
Camden did an excellent job helping Zachary open his gifts. I had prepared myself for a meltdown of "I didn't get any presents!", but not once did he mention that. Of course, the fact that Granny Breeden brought a bag of goodies for Camden helped too; and Pop and MawMaw gave him money. Camden helped, honestly helped, his brother open his presents. Camden got more excited than Zachary did. We had a great day!
The first pic is the Diego cake, then Zach attempting to blow out the candles, and then clapping when Cam helped him blow them out!

Uncle Mark & Aunt Kris

This is Camden and Zachary's Uncle Mark and Aunt Kris. Of course, you all know TD and I don't have any brothers or sisters, so our best friends become aunts and uncles.
Mark is TD's old roommate from bachelor-hood, and I met Kris when she married Mark. Kris and I have become very close and I consider her one of my very best friends.
Anyway, this pic is from Cam's Preschool Graduation. Camden absolutely adores Mark and Kris, and we are so lucky for them to be a part of the boys' life.
And, a cute picture of Zach in MawMaw and Pop's garden!

An Old Favorite

Okay, here's an old picture of TD and Camden from the Summer of 2003. They were walking to Friend Day, which is put on by local law enforcement agencies to show kids that police officers are "good guys" too. I just love this picture, I still have it on my desk at work.
One lady I used to work with asked me one day (joking), "Why is that man taking that little boy to jail?"

Pop's Shirt

I snapped this cute pic this past weekend....Zach loves to put his Pop Layman's shirt on and walk around the house.
Unfortunately, the past month, Zachary has been bit at pre-school a few times by another child. Last night I told Camden that he got bit again at school that day. Cam got real serious and said "Looks like I'm gonna have to take the day off from school tomorrow and go sit in Miss Keri's class to watch what's going on. Isn't that right, Mama?" So grown up. He was so upset that Zachary got hurt again. He loves his little brother so much.

Student of the Week!

Camden is Student of the Week this week! How cool? Wednesday he gets to bring anything from home for show & tell...but, according the note sent home: it has to be able to fit in his backpack, cannot be alive, and cannot contain any toy weapons!
He and his Grandaddy Breeden caught a live Praying Mantis on Sunday afternoon at our house, and he asked his teacher, Mrs. McCartney, if he could bring that. She said it would be fine since Mommy could help him bring it in the morning. He is so excited!
He started afterschool basketball yesterday. My mom picked him up from practice, and took some pictures of him in his room. Enjoy!

New to all this

I came up with the idea of creating this blog from my wonderful cousin, Amber, who created one for her son, Kenden. It has been so much fun being able to enjoy Kenden through her posts! Amber, her husband Jeff, and Kenden live in Virginia Beach, and we rarely get to see each other...so this has been wonderful!!!
Anyway, back to our family!
I want to make a goal to post on here at least weekly, so be sure to check back often for updates on the kids!
Camden started kindergarten this year. LOVES IT! He was a little nervous the first morning...but so excited the night before he couldn't go to sleep. Very excited that morning, but as we pulled into the parking lot, he said he was beginning to get nervous. Bless his heart, he did wonderful...no tears. More than I can say for myself...I cried all the way to work. I am lucky enough to be able to take him to school every morning and then he rides the school bus home every afternoon, with TD's dad meeting him at the bus stop which is the end of our driveway. He loves riding the bus and having his special "Camden and Pop Time".
Zachary turns 2 on the 20th of this month! Where did the time go? I can't believe how much he is growing! He loves his big brother so much...BoBo as Zach calls him. They get along SO good. Camden loves to help take care of him. It's actually one of his "jobs"...according to Camden, it is. Zachary has really grown in the past few months. Talks a mile a minute! We ask him, Who loves you? Zach responds: BoBo. Then we ask Who do you love? Zach responds: BoBo, and just smiles! He has become a huge fan of Go, Diego, Go! Or, Daygo and the tit-tat (Diego and Baby Jaguar). We've become quite familiar with Diego, and are having a Diego party for him this Saturday the 15th.
TD is the most wonderful, handsome, intelligent husband in the world. He's second to none. TD and I are good...more on us later!
